Featured Artist: Owen NiedOwen Nied is a twenty-two-year-old singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bass, ukulele, piano, melodica, and percussion) who has been performing since he was nine years old. Owen’s music ranges from edgy pop to jazz fusion to hip hop and straight on rock and roll. He has been influenced by artists as diverse as Wes Montgomery, Les Paul, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jack White, Davis Wax Museum, Jeff beck, Brain Wilson, B.B. King, Dick Dale, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Tony Bennet, Kendrick Lamar, Dave Brubeck, Chet Atkins, Van Morrison and Ella Fitzgerald.

Owen has contributed to the work of other artists as a session musician and producer, has composed original music for film and modern dance and has released multiple albums and EPs in collaboration with wonderful musicians such as saxophonist Zoe Stinson, Percussionist Zack Nickle, and jazz trumpet and flugelhorn player John Melito. Owen was awarded a merit scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music’s prestigious Summer Jazz Program, where he received honors. He has also studied at the Vermont Jazz Center.
After receiving an artistic achievement scholarship, Owen studied music and film at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA, graduating with a BA in 2020. While at Hampshire College, Owen studied music at Goldsmiths University in London and filmmaking in Paris. In 2020 Owen was the recipient of an Artist Development Grant from the Vermont Arts Council to produce a live musical performance video and was commissioned to compose an original layered vocal interpretation of a visual artist's work by the Smith College Museum of Art. Owen’s future (post COVID-19) projects include a solo tour as well as performances in the US and Europe with The Onlys, Cats in the Limelight and Spooky Tricycle, as well as solo and collaborative recordings.
